8th book in the Riley Jensen series about a dhampire (vampire/werewolf) forced to work as a guardian for the Dictorate of Other Races, policing crimes made by the supernatural community in Australia.
Riley realized in the last book that her wolf’s soul mate is Kye, a werewolf her body and soul cry out for, but her mind and heart want nothing to do with. He’s an assassin with no heart and is back; threatening those she cares for to control her. The tie between them means Riley would most likely die if he is killed. Her vampire soul mate is Quinn, a very old and powerful vampire that has her heart and mind. They’ve come a long way in their relationship through the series.
While dealing with both men she’s also working on two cases. One is very high profile involving the beheading of vampires. The other is the unexplained deaths of young healthy women.
The story has a good balance between Riley’s different relationships, personal growth and the mystery involving her cases. I found the book difficult to put down.
There will be only one more book in the series. The author will then continue in the same world but focusing on Risa, a very young psychic with a great deal of power who is in the current series.
