Ann Aguirre has an awesome series out that's a great character-based, action-packed, romantic element scifi - the first book was Grimspace and the second book (Wanderlust) is coming out 8/26. She's got an amazing contest going on where you could win $200 from your favorite book vendor if you buy her book on opening week/preorder.
The Wanderlust Wingding August 19th, 2008
Wanderlust I know you’ve all been expecting an awesome slam-bang contest to celebrate the release of the second Jax book. I understand I’ve become known for this sort of thing, so without further delay, I will reward your patience.
The contest is simple: the book releases in one week. At that time, you will go and buy it. An Amazon (or other online bookseller) preorder counts as well. You will then report back with your confirmation number (if you ordered online) in comments. If you’ve already preordered, dig up that email and post your order number in comments. If you buy it next week on the 26th in a brick and mortar store, there should be a receipt number. Use that and post it in comments. That’s your entry.
Think of it as a drawing (hey, you were gonna buy the book anyway, right? Right??) where you can win: $200 in free books from your choice of booksellers
That’s right; you get to pick. I’ll do a gift certificate from your favorite local indie store, or you can do BN, Borders, Booksamillion, Amazon, Powells, Coopersmith… the sky is the limit. Where do you want to spend my money?
So that’s the contest. It’s shiny and simple. Why this? Well, the street date is important, and I need lots of people buying the book right then in order to make bestseller lists. Do I care about that? Absolutely. So go, tell your friends, and then post your purchase info. I want to give away this loot! There might also be unannounced bonus prizes if y’all publicize this well for me.
(Contest runs two weeks, starting today. Winner announced on September 3.)

I was totally wowed by Doubleblind, the third in the Sirantha Jax series. I am in love with both Vel and March.
I love how Jax manages to *not* fall into old habits; how Ann manages to avoid certain cliches; and I love Ann's gorgeous writing. And I loved the ending.
So thoughts running through my mind at the end of the book - full of spoilers!!! :
1. I figured Jael for the whole thing to begin with, as I'd read Wanderlust right beforehand - he says something to her as she passes out towards the end of that book that made me question his loyalty. But I was a little surprised - I thought she had kinda won him over some, but Jael showed absolutely no emotion towards her until he hated her for where she left him. Were his supposedly unconscious facial expressions, etc., *all* faked? Or maybe Ann just really wanted to throw us a ringer? 2. Will we be seeing Jael again, either in Killbox or the next one? I think ... maybe. I'd be surprised if Ann didn't bring him back somehow because he's a great character. But how will he a) get out of the prison, and more importantly b) get off planet? Well, I guess he could stow away on the new liaison's ship. 3) Will March keep his emotions if he gets sucked back into war again? Even with Jax at his side? 4) If the Issth-tor (Bugs) people are so disgusted by humans and so easily offended by them, how in the world is any alliance supposed to last? I'm assuming Jax won't be involved so how will the new ambassador or other important figures not screw up, since they don't have her dedication or Vel's knowledge? I guess Vel could share all of that knowledge with the Conglomerate, but I don't see him doing that - or really the Conglomerate paying too much attention to it.
I read the first two, didn't know the 3rd one was out. I do like them but I think you enjoyed them more that me, but I will be getting the next one.
As always thanks for the reviews.
Yeah, I suck at reviews. I should actually give it a try
Let's see ... After Jax was asked to be an ambassador to the Issth-tor (sp?) home planet by the Conglomerate in the last book, she ended up taking a circuitous route getting there. In Doubleblind, she actually lands on the planet, which is populated by a xenophobic human-hating, and incredibly easy to offend race. Jax worries she'll instigate the next galactic war just trying to say "hi", which is a distinct possibility for our impulsive and anarchy-leaning heroine. There are factions who hope she fails because then they'll get to profit from the war heading their way. Then there are those who are praying she can succeed in getting the "Bugs" to agree to an alliance, for they're the only species the "Morgut" cannibalistic creatures will respect/fear - and they're on the warpath. In addition to this easy task, Jax must also find a way to reach her lover March, who lost his humanity (again) while fighting in the service of the clans who saved him the last time. Can Jax navigate both the Issthorians with the native, but outcast, Velith by her side? And simultaneously avoid assassination plots - and while trying to bring March back to humanity? Good luck. As the cover says, "She's humanity's last hope. Run for your lives."
