Rachel Vincent enters the teen market with a fantastic new series- "Soul Screamers" which will be released on August 1st. Luckily I was able to snag a freebie from Kindle that gives a bit of the back story story and what to expect:

My Soul to Lose (for Kindle only)

If the next in this line of books is as good as this review was then it's going to be a very big hit and from the excerpts I've read, it IS going to be as good.

From Rachel Vincent's web-site http://rachelvincent.com/MSTT.html ------------->

"She doesn't see dead people, but...

She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about the need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next...

SOUL SCREAMERS
The last thing you hear before you die..."

I encourage you to try it! So far judging by what I see on Rachels web-site there is another book called "My Soul to Save" also coming soon.

I didn't like the prequel available on the Kindle - it was a little rough reading for me. But I did end up reading My Soul to Take in-store and it was pretty good. I felt it was pretty derivative of a popular TV show, though - one that's since been canceled, but I can't imagine she didn't deliberately take that premise and use it for this book. I'm glad I didn't buy, but it was entertaining reading.

I ended up liking the prequel - at least from the standpoint of someone who has metaphysical abilities and in the back of my mind fears ending up being medicated by an institution to "fix" me.

Unfortunately it wasn't until near the end of the prequel that I felt that I liked it; when things became clearer to the reader. I did download My Soul to Take for my Kindle and hope to get to it later this week.

My Soul To Take is the first full length book in this Soul series. It's got a very unique story for the Urban Fantasy genre.

That first short story just set the stage for the type of problems Kaylee faces; the feel of overwhelming grief causing her to scream uncontrollably, originally thought to be panic attacks, the belief that she's crazy and needs to be medicated, and of course, parent issues. In this new book she learns what she is and why she does what she does; both a gift and a curse.

Teenage girls are dying, just collapsing and are dead before hitting the ground. With Kaylee's gift, she's able to see that the girls are going before their time and must find a way to stop it.

Lots of teenage angst issues which many can relate to.

I can't wait for the next book.

Crap. Now I can't remember what the T.V. show was - I didn't mention it b/c it kinda gave away some of the plot. Maybe it'll come to me as I fall asleep tonight ;)
